As a follow up to my post last week on my E5 phot shoot, I decided to edit these photos a little bit more than I normally do and I thought I might share the before and after comparisons of these.  I tried a few things with different colour tones and looks that I typically don’t get into in my photos but am fairly happy with the results.  I hope you enjoy the comparisons and please comment on what you think.

I am running a post processing workshop for the UW photography club this week and am going to go over a few common things I do to my photos but as a small summary: I usually do most things in lightroom but move into photoshop when I want to do more local adjustments. Within photoshop i use layer masks pretty heavily and rarely touch the actual original photo.  Within lightroom I do a slight curve adjustment and usually play with the contrast. I find that I like higher contrast in my photos and so I typically bump that up. I also try to make the foreground a bit brighter than the background for extra pop. I also shoot raw 90% of the time as it gives way more flexibility when editing.

Please comment on what you think of the final edits.

After a one year break, I am back on the Waterloo Varsity Figure Skating team and the past weekend marked the first competition of the season.  I was there with my skates and my camera and I think the camera part of the weekend went better then the skates part.  I skated in the morning and had a really good warm-up, but less then stellar program.  I ended up 4th of 6 which is alright since I compete in Open Men and could probably only have gotten 3rd regardless.  Despite this the team did an Excellent job gathering two first place finishes and three 2nd place finishes for an Overall 2nd Overall.  I am proud of our team and would like to thank them all for a great Friday.  Everyone did a fantastic job, even the supporters in the stands.

Here are a few of the photos from the event.
