The Waterloo Varsity Figure skating Team traveled to Toronto recently to compete in the second competition of the 2010-2011 season.  I am on Co-Op this term so I was unable to attend the first day of competition, however I did take a bus up to Toronto for the second day.  From what I hear, the results of day 1 were not in our favour and so we had a long way to go in order to come back.  After a much stronger Day 2, Waterloo ended up climbing up to a tie for 5th with McGill.  It was a little disappointing, since we came 2nd overall at the first competition, but we are confident that we can pull up our socks for the OUA championships.

Brandon Prete – 1st in Open Men’s

Mercedes Grzenda, Laura Beecroft, Shannon Murray and Heather Sicoli – 2nd in pairs four Freeskate

Every January since 2008, I have traveled to a National Engineering Conference held by the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students.  The first two years, i attended as a delegate and the past two I have gone early as an officer of the CFES (VP-Communications in 2010, IT Comissioner in 2011).  This year the conference was held in St.John’s Newfoundland and I was super excited to grab my camera and get tons of great photos.  Unfortunately the week and a half that I was there was jam packed with sessions and social events so I didn’t get to spend a lot of time with my camera.  I did make it out on a night time photo walk once and a quick trip to signal hill as well, but it was getting dark and i didn’t have time to get very many shots.  Anyways here are a bunch of the photos I took in St.Johns.  Next year the conference is being hosted in the Yukon, which should be tons of fun.  Also Waterloo made a bid for Congress 2013 and won, so i am sure I will be involved in the planning of that somehow.
