In November of last year I was sitting in our Engineering lounge and people were talking about what types of things they would like to do in a volunteering capacity in the future.  I have always wanted to be Vice President External and was always wary of taking on the responsibility due to my academics.  I think I have finally figured out my academics and so established that I would run in the election occurring in the spring term.  Since I am in ECE and have a weird co-op schedule I cannot run for the full-length term and require a partner to run.  During that November afternoon conversation in the lounge another person was talking about their intention to run but also needed a partner due to the Nano schedule containing 8 month co-op and work terms.  It worked out that we had opposite schedules and so it was established on that November day that we would run together in the spring.

Both Lisa and I were on Co-op in Waterloo during the Winter and I was excited to get going on our campaign, so we had an introductory photo-shoot in February to get some photos for our posters.  It was just a general set up with two Alien Bees with large softbox on either side of the subject and a white backdrop.  I got going on some of the posters right away and by the end of the Winter term had a solid 12 posters finished.  We had a lot more ideas for novel posters so Lisa and I had a second shoot which gathered even more photos specific to some posters we were looking to make.

We weren’t sure if anyone was going to run against us but wanted to have a solid campaign regardless.  Turns out that another ECE/Nano team decided to run against us and so the race was on.  At the end of a week of campaigning and a weekend of voting we were announced the Winners on Tuesday.  The votes were close and I enjoyed the campaign but am pretty excited that it is over.

It looks like I will be a little busier over the next 16 months serving as Waterloo Engineering Societies Vice President External.  See some of my favorite posters below.
